My art is conservative in character—a commitment to subject matter, limited palette, traditional drawing, historical references. Over the years my work has evolved from complex arrangements to vastly simplified, iconic images of single objects, a drastic reduction in number. My aim is to express a quiet, concentrated feeling of devotion, like being alone in a small chapel. I like the tension between illusion of space and light, and a rich, worked surface. Perhaps a viewer might find in my work a respite from our busy lives.
